Product Overview
RecordALL plate strainers protect the meter measuring element — grit and debris are what wear a turbine or compound rotor and pull its reading off, and a strainer ahead of the meter keeps them out. The dual-flange strainers come in lead-free bronze on 2–6 in. and fusion-bonded-epoxy fabricated steel (Model ML-MS) on 8–12 in., with a non-corrosive 316 stainless perforated plate — 3/16 in. holes on 2–4 in., 1/4 in. on 6 in., and 5/32 in. on the steel sizes — sized to a minimum 2-to-1 ratio of the meter inlet so it strains debris while holding flow restriction and velocity-profile distortion low. The screen removes to clean in the service line, rated to 150 psi working pressure (bronze hydrostatically tested to 300 psi static), and the strainers are NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 certified, carry the NSF-61 mark, and exceed AWWA standards.
Key Features & Benefits
- Protects the measuring element — screens out the foreign matter that loads the turbine bearing and accelerates rotor wear, so registration holds its accuracy longer
- Bronze or steel by size — lead-free bronze on 2–6 in. and fusion-bonded-epoxy fabricated steel on 8–12 in. (Model ML-MS) — matched to the meter and the line size
- Double straining area — the 316 stainless perforated plate runs at least twice the meter-inlet area, so it catches debris without adding much head loss
- Cleans in line — the screen removes to clean without taking the strainer body out of the service line
- Steadies the profile — reducing velocity-profile distortion ahead of the meter helps hold registration accuracy
Specifications
- Function
- Dual-flange plate strainers that protect the meter measuring element from grit and debris and minimize the velocity-profile distortion that pulls a turbine or compound reading off
- Sizes
- 2, 3, 4 and 6 in. (lead-free bronze); 8, 10 and 12 in. (fabricated steel, Model ML-MS)
- Body material
- Lead-free bronze alloy on 2–6 in.; fabricated steel with internal and external fusion-bonded epoxy coating on 8–12 in. (Model ML-MS)
- Screen
- A non-corrosive 316 stainless steel perforated plate — 3/16 in. holes on 2, 3 and 4 in., 1/4 in. on 6 in., and 5/32 in. on the 8–12 in. steel strainers; the straining area is a minimum 2-to-1 ratio of the meter inlet, and the screen removes for in-line cleaning
- Standards & certifications
- Exceed AWWA standards; certified to NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 (Trade Designation Plate Strainer LL-NS bronze / Badger Steel Plate Strainer) with the NSF-61 mark on the housing, and comply with the lead-free provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act
- Working pressure
- 150 psi (10 bar) maximum working pressure; bronze housings are individually hydrostatically tested to 300 psi static
- End connections
- Dual round flange (and a dual elliptical 2 in.), compatible with any ASA 125 flange
- Serviceability
- The screen removes to clean the strainer in the service line without taking the body out of the line; the bronze sizes carry a removable NPT drain plug
Common Applications
- Upstream protection for Turbo and Compound meters
- Debris protection on dirty or older distribution mains
- Protecting meter accuracy where velocity-profile distortion from pipe bends or valving is a concern
- Large-line protection (8–12 in.) with the fabricated-steel Model ML-MS
To match the right plate strainer to your meter:
Use the input form to send the meter family and line size, the flange standard, and the water condition — and we’ll match the strainer (lead-free bronze or fabricated-steel ML-MS) and screen perforation to the meter and the line.
