Hedland EZ-View — Variable Area Flow Meters

Product Overview

EZ-View is Hedland’s economical clear-body variable-area meter — a transparent polysulfone body (Radel® R on the small sizes) that gives at-a-glance flow indication for oil and water with no electrical connections to wire or power, and lets you see the fluid condition through the body. The internal piston is read directly against a printed scale, mounts in any position without straight pipe, holds ±5% of full scale, and is built in two size families — ½ to 1 in. (to 28 GPM) and 2½ to 3 in. (to 275 GPM) — with swivel brass, stainless or PVC fittings. It is a low-to-moderate-duty meter, 325 psi and +250°F maximum; beyond that envelope a metal-body family is the right call. Where the job needs a signal rather than a glance, use a Flow-Alert switch or MR transmitter on a metal meter instead.

Other Hedland meters & electronics
Petroleum & Hydraulic Oil — metal body, oil, to 6,000 psi Water & Other Liquids — brass body, water Flow-Alert — flow switch with a trip contact MR Transmitter — rate / total with 4–20 mA output
Hedland EZ-View clear plastic-body variable-area flow meter (Badger Meter)
Hedland EZ-View — economical clear polysulfone (or Radel® R) body, direct-reading, no electrical connections.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Economical clear-body meter — a transparent polysulfone body gives at-a-glance flow indication at a lower cost than the metal high-pressure families
  • Polysulfone or Radel R — standard polysulfone for oil and water; a Radel® R body is offered on the ½–1 in. meters for more aggressive media
  • No electrical connections — purely visual and direct-reading — nothing to wire or power
  • Installs in any position — the spring-loaded piston reads accurately in any orientation with no straight run or flow straighteners
  • Swivel fittings — brass, T303 stainless or PVC swivel fittings ease installation into existing lines
  • Shock- and vibration-tolerant — relatively insensitive to shock and vibration for a clear-body meter

Specifications

Measurement principle
Variable area — a spring-loaded piston and orifice form an annular opening against a metering cone; a transparent body lets the indicator be read directly, with no electronics
Compatible fluids
Oil and water — transparent polysulfone body for general service; a Radel® R body is offered on the ½–1 in. meters for more aggressive media
Accuracy
±5% of full scale
Repeatability
±1%
Flow ranges
0.5 to 28 US GPM (2 to 100 LPM) on the ½–1 in. meters; 20 to 275 US GPM (75 to 1000 LPM) on the 2½–3 in. meters
Port sizes
½, ¾ and 1 in.; and 2½ and 3 in.
Body material
Polysulfone (standard); Radel® R offered on the ½–1 in. meters for more aggressive media
Wetted materials
Polysulfone body, piston and cone (a Radel® R body and cone with a polysulfone piston is offered on the ½–1 in. meters); stainless spring; Buna N seals; brass, T303 stainless or PVC fittings; PH15-7Mo stainless retaining ring
Seals
Buna N (nitrile)
Temperature range
+32 to +250°F (0 to +121°C); meters with PVC fittings +32 to +140°F (0 to +60°C)
Pressure rating
325 psi (22.4 bar) maximum; meters with PVC fittings per the PVC system specification
Fittings / threads
Swivel brass, T303 stainless or PVC fittings — NPTF (ANSI/ASME B1.20.1), BSPT (ISO R7) and, on the 2½–3 in. meters, BSPP (ISO 228)
Mounting orientation
Any orientation; no special piping or flow straighteners
Flow scale
Direct-reading linear scale calibrated for the fluid — oil (0.876 s.g.) or water (1.0 s.g.); special scales available
Readout
Visual, direct-reading through the transparent body; no electrical connections
Calibration
Calibrated for 1.0 or 0.876 specific gravity; a NIST-traceable calibration certificate is available
Certifications
Certificate of Conformance (free with original PO) and NIST-traceable Calibration Certificate available

Common Applications

  • At-a-glance flow indication on cooling-water and lubrication lines
  • Low-cost oil and water flow checks where a visual reading is enough
  • OEM equipment that needs a built-in visual flow indicator
  • Test stands and service carts needing a quick visual confirmation of flow
Need high pressure, higher temperature or tighter accuracy? Step up to the metal-body families — e.g. petroleum & hydraulic oil (aluminum, to 6,000 psi) or water & other liquids (brass).

Design & Selection Considerations

  • Choose the body plastic and fitting for the media — the standard polysulfone body suits oil and water; for more aggressive media the ½–1 in. meters can be specified with a Radel® R body. Fittings are brass, T303 stainless or PVC — and PVC fittings carry their own lower limits (to +140°F and the PVC system pressure). Use the input form to tell us the fluid and we’ll set the body and fitting material.
  • Respect the pressure and temperature ceiling — EZ-View is a low-to-moderate-duty meter: 325 psi and +250°F maximum (lower with PVC fittings). Above those limits, or where ±5% accuracy isn’t tight enough, move to a metal high-pressure family. Confirm the working pressure and temperature first — EZ-View is the economical visual option inside its envelope.
  • It is visual only — no signal out — EZ-View has no electrical connections. Where the job needs a trip contact or an analog output, use a Flow-Alert switch or MR transmitter on a metal-body meter instead. EZ-View answers “is it flowing, and roughly how much” at the lowest cost.

To size & select the right EZ-View meter:

Use the input form to tell us the fluid, flow range, line size and the working pressure and temperature, and we’ll confirm whether EZ-View fits the envelope or a metal-body family is the better choice — and set the body plastic, fitting and scale.
