What is a Vision turbine meter, and where does it fit?
Vision is a compact turbine meter for low-flow, low-viscosity liquids. A small bladed rotor sits in the flow path and spins at a speed proportional to flow; a Hall-effect sensor reads each blade as it passes and puts out a frequency pulse, and a fixed K-factor (pulses per gallon) converts that frequency to flow rate and total. Because the rotor mass is tiny, response is fast, resolution is high — up to 83,000 pulses per gallon — and the meter needs no upstream straight run and mounts in any orientation. That makes it the right meter for dispensing, dosing, and OEM machine builds: coffee and vending machines, bakery and steam-cooking equipment, sterilizers and dialysis machines, dosing and bottling lines, cooling and solar loops, and fuel-consumption measurement. For viscous or variable-viscosity fluids it is the wrong tool — an oval-gear positive-displacement meter holds accuracy there; and for high-flow water service an electromagnetic or ultrasonic meter from the Badger Meter flow family is the better fit.
How do I choose between the BV1000, BV2000, and BV3000?
By line size and flow range. The BV1000 is the micro-flow meter — 1/4 in, 0.026 to 0.65 gpm — for dosing and the smallest dispensing duties; it is the only model offered with a 6 mm push-fit connection (on the rugged Grilamid body) alongside the standard NPT and parallel-G threads. The BV2000 is the workhorse mid-range — 3/8 in ports, 0.13 to 9.2 gpm spread across six K-factor builds (the 050 through 350 ranges), so the meter is matched to your specific flow window rather than one wide span. The BV3000 is the largest — 3/4 in ports, 1.32 to 17.17 gpm — for cooling and process loops. The BV2000 and BV3000 are threaded only (NPT or parallel G). All three carry ±3% of reading accuracy, repeatability under 0.5%, a 362.5 psi operating rating, and a −4 to 212 °F range. Which body material do I need — Trogamid, Grilamid, or brass?
The body is chosen by fluid, ruggedness, and approval. Trogamid is a clear, BPA-free engineering polymer; on the BV1000 and BV2000 it is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372 and meets the lead-free provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act, so it is the choice for potable water, food, beverage, and medical fluids — and being clear, it lets you see the rotor turn. Grilamid (fiberglass-reinforced) is a BV1000-only option for a tougher, opaque body, and it comes with the 6 mm push-fit connection. Brass (lead-free CuZn38) is the metal-body BV2000 option for food and beverage duties (0.5 to 6.6 gpm) where a rigid metallic port is preferred; the BV3000 is offered in Trogamid. Across all of them the turbine is PPS ferrite and the bearings are graphite/PTFE; the wetted path otherwise matches. How accurate is it, and does viscosity matter?
Accuracy is ±3% of reading with repeatability under 0.5% at the same conditions — tight enough for repeatable batching and dispensing, which is what these meters are built for. Viscosity does matter: Vision is a low-viscosity meter, rated to about 16 cSt, and like any turbine its calibration shifts as the fluid thickens. If your fluid is thin and clean — water, coolant, beverage, light oil, fuel — it is well suited; if it is thick or variable-viscosity, an oval-gear positive-displacement meter is the better measurement principle. A 20 to 40 micron filter upstream is recommended to keep grit off the rotor and bearings.
What output does it give, and how do I read it?
Vision is pulse-output only: an NPN sinking open-collector Hall-effect frequency signal, powered from 5 to 24 V DC at about 1.6 mA, with a pull-up resistor required (the wiring diagram is in the user manual). There is no 4–20 mA or Modbus card — the meter delivers its K-factor pulse train, which a PLC, flow computer, batch controller, or rate/total display reads and scales. If you need a local rate-and-total readout or a scaled analog output, that lives in the downstream counter you pair with the meter; tell us how the signal has to land and we size the meter and the readout together.
Is it certified for potable water?
Yes, on the polymer-body meters. The BV1000 and BV2000 in Trogamid are certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, comply with the lead-free provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act, and carry KTW-BWGL; all Vision meters are RoHS and CE compliant and BPA-free. That covers drinking-water, food, beverage, and medical-fluid service. If your spec calls out a specific drinking-water approval, tell us and we confirm the certified model and body before quoting.
