About this industry
Salt air ends arguments about materials — aboard ship and offshore, the sheath is Monel or stainless, the motor is built for a classed vessel, and every sensor lives sealed against spray or seawater head. Prater Technical Partners supplies that equipment layer: Accutherm Monel marine-duty circulation and finned-tubular marine heating (the mil-spec & marine-duty focus of the Aspeq family), Reuland Electric mil-spec winch, crane, and hoist motors, WIKA-ST load pins and subsea pressure sensors, and shipboard fuel and hydraulic flow metering from the Badger Meter family (Hedland, Flo-tech, Blancett, oval gear). Prater Technical works with you to spec each one from the vessel, the fluid, and the class requirements.
- Shipboard ventilation, pump, fan & compressor-refrigeration drives—Reuland Mil-Spec Marine Motors
- Machinery-space metering where straight run is minimal—Preso Gemini Cone
- Fuel & lube metering in corrosive marine service—IOG Stainless Oval Gear
FAQ: equipment for marine & offshore
Why specify Monel-sheathed heaters for marine service?
Chlorides. In seawater, brine, and salt-laden fuel or oil service, stainless sheaths pit — Monel is the wetted material that holds up, which is why the Accutherm Monel marine-duty circulation heaters are built around it for fuel-oil preheat, lube- and hydraulic-oil heating, and seawater loops aboard ship and offshore. Mil-spec & marine-duty is Accutherm's focus — start at the Accutherm page.
Can you heat hazardous areas on a platform or aboard ship?
Yes — Accutherm explosion-proof immersion heaters cover shipboard and offshore hazardous-area heating with ATEX/IECEx-marked, export-ready construction. For ordinary areas, finned-tubular marine heaters handle cabin, compartment, and space heating in salt-laden atmospheres, and Indeeco unit & area heaters carry ABS approval for decks and compartments. See Accutherm and Indeeco.
Do you supply motors for ABS- and Coast Guard-classed vessels?
Yes. Reuland Electric mil-spec marine motors are certified marine motors for ABS- and U.S. Coast Guard-classed vessels — shipboard winch, crane, and hoist drives, plus ventilation, pump, compressor, and refrigeration duty on military, commercial, and cruise vessels. Reuland's overhead crane & hoist line covers the port side: deck cranes and container handlers. See Reuland Electric.
How do you weigh containers for SOLAS verified gross mass?
With load pins in the spreader bar — WIKA-ST load pins install in four-corner arrays for container-terminal spreader weighing, with IP67-sealed and wireless versions for marine exposure. For subsea work, canister load cells and deep-sea differential pressure transducers are environmentally sealed for offshore load and pressure monitoring. See WIKA-ST.
What do you offer for shipboard fuel and hydraulic systems?
Hedland variable-area meters give local fuel-oil and hydraulic flow indication, the Blancett B1750 monitors engine fuel consumption, oval-gear meters totalize fuel and lube dispensing and bunkering, and the Flo-tech MC4000 and PFM6 testers troubleshoot deck-machinery hydraulics with digital displays for remote indication.
